The Spine Center Program at Northside Hospital is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary approach to back and spinal pain and injuries. Almost 80% of Americans will experience pain in the back, neck or spinal area. The symptoms can range from mild discomfort to sever pain and spasms. Back pain is often caused by lifting a heavy object or lifting incorrectly, excessive activities such as sports or strenuous chores can cause pain and discomfort immediately or within a few days. The pain will typically resolve with conservative measures. However, back pain resolution may be achieved more quickly with medical treatment such as medications, physical therapy, or steroid injections.
The Northside Spine Center Program is centered around the importance of immediate care for patients with pain in the lower, mid, upper back or neck. The coordinated conservative approach combines the expertise of prompt evaluation, pain management, physical therapy neuroradiology and surgery if needed. Our team of experts range from neurosurgeons, orthopedics, pain treatment specialists, radiologists and physical therapists.

Self Help Treatments- The best self-care is to first evaluate your symptoms. If they seem to be related to the muscles and the spine, you can begin by icing the area. Ice is best for new injuries, while heat is good for persistent ones. Over the counter anti-inflammatory medications can help relieve symptoms. Stay active but avoid heavy lifting or repetitive twisting or bending. Change positions frequently and take a minute to stretch.
